Join us for an engaging session focused on practical ways parents and teachers can support children’s literacy development. We’ll explore the importance of reading levels (Lexiles), how to match books to children’s interests, and the incredible benefits of reading aloud together. This session will include meaningful discussions, simple strategies, and valuable resources to strengthen the connection between home and school in fostering a love for reading.
Multiple literacies within cookbooks are explored in this session. Students will learn about the world of cooking right at their fingertips within digital libraries, and make a delicious treat to take home.
Instructions: Decorate pom-poms as worry characters, adding faces and gluing it to a craft stick. Students can write words of affirmation on the craft stick.
Integration: Connect the craft to the book, discuss emotional transformation, and encourage creative writing about the worry pom-poms.
Located throughout the hallways are themed stations of free books to take home! Don't miss appearances of your favorite characters for photo opportunities and special books!

The Waterford.org table will feature information on opportunities for PreK families to increase core literacy skills. These services are provided through grant dollars so that there are no additional costs incurred.
Families will have the opportunity to hear Pete the Cat's Groovy Imagination and participate in the story by working together to build something from their own imaginations!
*Phonics on the Move* is an interactive session for students (K-2) where children engage their bodies to learn sounds and words. Instead of simply saying the sounds, they physically tap out each sound by using physical movements to represent different phonemes and syllables. This active approach helps children build stronger connections between the sounds they hear and the letters they see, reinforcing their phonics skills in a fun and kinesthetic way. As they move, they gain both physical and cognitive practice, making learning dynamic and memorable!
Are you smarter than a 5th grader?? Check your knowlege of facts on questions drawn from elementary school concepts. Patrons will compete for the top spots and win awesome prizes while munching on a small bag of popcorn. Turn words into art by creating something new by upcycling old book pages. In this make and take session, participants will be able to follow simple step-by-step tutorials to create art from books that have been well-loved.
Students will be planting their very own plant while following specific "sequence of events." While planting their own plants, the students will learn about plant care and the important parts of a plant.
In this creative and hands-on session, kids will learn the basics of stitching by creating their own fabric rendition of their favorite book cover! Guided by a friendly instructor, participants will explore different types of stitches and how to transfer their chosen book cover design onto fabric. Whether it’s the magical world of Harry Potter or the adventurous landscapes of The Hobbit, each child will bring their favorite story to life through colorful threads and fabric.
